Terms of Service
The agreement between your business and coderband LLC, the company that operates BuiltBrief.
Last updated: 9 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between coderband LLC ("we", "us"), the company that operates BuiltBrief, and the business that signs up for BuiltBrief ("you"). By creating an account, installing the BuiltBrief GitHub App or paying for a plan, you agree to these terms on behalf of that business.
coderband LLC is a Wyoming limited liability company (Wyoming filing ID 2025-001816694), at 75 E 3rd St, Ste 7, Sheridan, WY 82801, USA. Contact: hello@builtbrief.com.
These terms work together with our Privacy Policy and our Data Processing Addendum. The DPA applies automatically whenever we process personal data for you.
1. What BuiltBrief does
BuiltBrief is an agent that reads your GitHub and briefs you. You connect selected repositories through a read-only GitHub App. On a schedule you choose (weekly by default, or daily or monthly), BuiltBrief:
- collects pull request, issue, check and deployment information, and short, size-limited excerpts of pull request diffs;
- sends that material to an AI model provider to write a digest of each pull request and a brief for the period;
- emails the brief to the account owner and to the reader recipients you choose.
Every claim in a brief links to the evidence it came from, such as the pull request on GitHub.
2. Business use only
BuiltBrief is for businesses. You confirm that you are using it for your trade, business or profession, and not as a consumer. If you sign up as an individual, you do so as a sole trader or on behalf of an organization.
3. Your account
- You sign in with GitHub. Keep your GitHub account secure; actions taken through your sign-in count as yours.
- The account owner controls the workspace, including which repositories are connected and who receives briefs.
- Give us accurate details and keep your contact email current. We send important notices there.
- Tell us at hello@builtbrief.com straight away if you think someone has accessed your account without permission.
4. The GitHub App and your authority to install it
The BuiltBrief GitHub App asks for read-only access to:
- Metadata;
- Pull requests (this includes pull request diffs);
- Issues;
- Actions;
- Deployments.
It does not ask for the Contents permission, so it can't read files directly from your repositories.
You may only install the App on repositories you are allowed to connect. By installing it, you confirm that:
- you have authority from the organization or person that owns each repository to install a third-party app on it;
- connecting those repositories doesn't breach any contract, policy or law that applies to them, such as a client agreement or a confidentiality obligation;
- you have given any notice to contributors that section 6 requires.
You can choose which repositories the App can access, and change that at any time in your GitHub settings. The Founder plan covers up to 5 repositories.
5. Purpose limits: work, not people
BuiltBrief reports on work, repositories and teams. It is designed not to report on individual people, and it never produces per-person scores, rankings, leaderboards or activity tracking.
Intended purpose. BuiltBrief is intended to help a business understand what was built, shipped and blocked in its repositories. It is not intended to be used, and must not be used, to:
- evaluate, score, rank or compare the performance or behaviour of individual workers or contributors;
- make or support decisions about hiring, discipline, pay, bonuses, promotion, task allocation based on individual behaviour or traits, or termination of any individual;
- monitor the activity, working hours, presence or idle time of individuals;
- infer emotions, sentiment, personality or other personal traits of individuals.
This statement of intended purpose is deliberate. Under the EU AI Act, AI systems intended to evaluate workers or to make decisions about work relationships are high-risk (Annex III, point 4(b)). BuiltBrief is not designed, tested or offered for that use. If you use it for any of the purposes above, you are using it outside its intended purpose, and you are responsible for the legal consequences. Under Article 25 of the AI Act, that may include being treated as the provider of a high-risk AI system.
Other things you must not do:
- try to make BuiltBrief produce per-person evaluations, for example by prompting, filtering or combining its output with other data;
- connect repositories you aren't authorized to connect;
- break the law, GitHub's terms, or the rights of others through your use of BuiltBrief;
- reverse engineer, overload, probe or bypass the security of the service, except through responsible disclosure (see our Security page);
- resell BuiltBrief or provide it to third parties as a service, unless we agree in writing;
- use BuiltBrief in breach of sanctions or export control laws.
6. Telling contributors
The people whose pull requests and issues BuiltBrief reads are usually not our customers. They are your employees, contractors or outside contributors. Before you connect a repository, you must:
- tell the people who contribute to it that BuiltBrief reads their work, what it produces and who sees it;
- meet any other legal requirement that applies to you, such as giving notice under GDPR Articles 13 and 14, giving electronic monitoring notice where required, or consulting a works council or employee representatives.
We provide notice templates and a page for developers to help. The templates are a starting point; you are responsible for the notice you actually give.
7. AI-generated briefs
Briefs and digests are written by an AI model. They can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. In particular:
- Check before you act. Every claim links to its evidence. Verify the evidence before you rely on a brief for any decision.
- Agent attribution is a signal, not proof. When a brief says a pull request carried a coding-agent signal, it means a marker such as a commit trailer or bot account was seen. Those markers can be missing, switched off or faked. Absence of a signal doesn't mean a person wrote the code, and presence doesn't prove an agent did.
- Silence isn't idleness. A brief only sees what reaches the connected repositories. Work done elsewhere won't appear.
- Briefs are not legal, financial, security or employment advice.
8. Free trial
- New workspaces get a 14-day free trial. No payment card is needed.
- When the trial ends, briefs stop unless you subscribe. We don't charge you automatically at the end of a trial.
- We may limit trials to one per business, and may end a trial early if it is being misused.
9. Subscription and payment
Plan. The Founder plan costs US$79 a month or US$790 a year, plus any applicable taxes shown at checkout. It includes up to 5 repositories, the account owner and up to 5 reader recipients.
Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each monthly or yearly period, at the then-current price, until you cancel. We'll show the price, billing frequency, renewal terms and how to cancel before you pay.
How payment works. BuiltBrief is sold using Stripe Managed Payments. Payments are handled by Sold through Link, LLC, an affiliate of Stripe, which acts as merchant of record for your purchase. In practice this means:
- you pay through a Stripe Checkout page, and the purchase appears as "Sold through Link";
- your card statement shows a descriptor starting with
LINK.COM*; - Link calculates, collects and remits sales tax, VAT or GST where Stripe supports that, and sends your receipts and invoices;
- Link may show the price in your local currency;
- your payment is also governed by Link's purchase terms, including the Sold through Link terms;
- Link handles payment questions, billing support and chargebacks, and you can manage your subscription and payment method at link.com.
We remain your provider. Link handles the payment, but coderband LLC provides BuiltBrief and is responsible to you for the service under these terms. For product questions, contact us.
Price changes. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email before a price change takes effect. It applies from your next renewal. If you don't want to pay the new price, cancel before then.
10. Cancellation and refunds
Cancelling. You can cancel at any time in your BuiltBrief account settings or through your Link order management page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep access until then, and you won't be charged again.
Refunds. Our policy is that fees already paid are not refundable for partly used periods, except where the law requires a refund.
However, because Link is the merchant of record, the Sold through Link refund policy also applies and takes priority where it is more generous than ours. In summary:
- you can ask Link for a refund within 60 days of a payment for eligible reasons, such as an unauthorized or duplicate charge, or not receiving the service;
- Link may issue a refund within 60 days of a payment even where our own policy would not;
- local consumer laws may give additional rights, which Link honours.
If a payment is refunded or reversed, we may end or shorten the subscription period that payment covered.
11. Your data and your briefs
You own your data. Your repository content, the metadata we collect from GitHub, and the digests and briefs BuiltBrief writes for you ("your data") belong to you. We claim no ownership of them.
What you allow us to do. You give us permission to access, process and store your data only as needed to provide, secure and support BuiltBrief for you, and as described in our Privacy Policy and DPA.
No training. We don't use your data to train AI models. Our model provider's commercial terms also prohibit it from training models on the content we send it.
Source code and diffs are not stored. We process diff excerpts and pull request text to write digests, then discard them. We store pull request metadata, the digests and briefs we generate, your account details and your billing status.
Retention. We keep digests and briefs for up to 13 months. If you uninstall the App or delete your account, we delete your data within 30 days. Cancelling a subscription doesn't delete data by itself; to delete it, uninstall the App or delete your account. The Privacy Policy has the details.
Service data. We may use operational data about how the service runs, such as error rates and run times, to keep it working and improve it. That data doesn't include your repository content or brief text.
Feedback. If you send us suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything.
12. Confidentiality
Each of us may receive the other's non-public information. The receiving party will:
- use it only for the purposes of this agreement;
- protect it with at least reasonable care;
- share it only with staff, contractors and service providers who need it and are bound by similar duties.
This doesn't apply to information that is public through no fault of the receiver, that the receiver already had or developed independently, or that it received lawfully from someone else. A party may disclose information when the law requires it, giving notice first where it legally can. Your repository data and briefs are your confidential information.
13. Our intellectual property
BuiltBrief, including its software, design and brand, belongs to us. These terms give you the right to use BuiltBrief during your subscription. They don't transfer any of our intellectual property to you.
14. Suspension
We may suspend your access, in whole or in part, if:
- your payment fails and isn't resolved;
- we reasonably believe you're using BuiltBrief in breach of section 5 or 6;
- your use creates a security risk or could harm the service, other customers or third parties;
- the law or a court or authority requires it.
Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. We'll restore access once it's resolved.
15. Ending the agreement
- You can stop at any time by cancelling, uninstalling the App or deleting your account.
- We can end the agreement with 30 days' notice for any reason. If we do, and you prepaid, we'll refund the unused part of your prepaid period.
- Either of us can end it straight away if the other seriously breaches these terms and doesn't fix the breach within 14 days of notice. Using BuiltBrief to evaluate, discipline, pay or terminate individual workers is a serious breach.
Sections 7, 11, 12 and 16 to 21 continue after the agreement ends.
16. Warranties disclaimer
We'll work hard to keep BuiltBrief running and accurate. But, to the extent the law allows, BuiltBrief is provided "as is" and "as available". We make no other promises, express or implied, including about merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy of AI output, or uninterrupted, error-free service.
17. Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows:
- No indirect losses. Neither of us is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, goodwill or data, even if warned they were possible.
- Cap. Each party's total liability arising from this agreement is limited to the fees you paid or owed for BuiltBrief in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim. If you have paid nothing (for example, during a trial), the cap is US$100.
- Exceptions. The cap and exclusion don't apply to your obligation to pay fees, your indemnity under section 18, or either party's liability that can't be limited by law, such as liability for fraud.
18. Indemnity for misuse
You'll defend and indemnify coderband LLC, and its members, staff and contractors, against third-party claims, and the resulting losses, fines, damages and reasonable legal costs, that arise from:
- using BuiltBrief, or anything it produces, to evaluate, monitor, discipline, pay, promote or terminate any individual, or otherwise outside its intended purpose in section 5;
- failing to give the notices, or to meet the consultation duties, described in section 6;
- connecting repositories you weren't authorized to connect;
- your breach of law or of these terms.
We'll tell you promptly about any such claim, let you control the defence, and cooperate reasonably. You won't settle a claim in a way that admits fault on our behalf without our consent.
19. Governing law and courts
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be heard exclusively in the state courts located in Sheridan County, Wyoming, and both parties consent to their jurisdiction. Either party may still seek urgent injunctive relief in any competent court.
20. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes, we'll email the account owner at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using BuiltBrief after that date, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, cancel before they take effect. The date at the top of this page shows when the terms last changed.
21. General
- Entire agreement. These terms, the Privacy Policy and the DPA are the whole agreement between us about BuiltBrief. If they conflict, the DPA wins on personal data.
- Assignment. You may not transfer this agreement without our consent. We may transfer it as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of BuiltBrief, with notice to you.
- No waiver. Not enforcing a right right away doesn't mean we give it up.
- Severability. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- Force majeure. Neither of us is responsible for delays caused by events beyond reasonable control, other than payment obligations.
- Independent parties. Nothing here creates a partnership, employment or agency relationship.
- Notices. We send notices to the account owner's email. You send them to hello@builtbrief.com.
